Mercedes-Benz Brisbane Fashion Festival - Tuesday 25 August

Fashion After Hours; a night of sparkling wine, dark chocolate and informative conversation

Under the impression the Fashion After Hours panel discussion would be held in a large hall with the capability of holding hordes of people, I was pleasantly surprised at what the night had to offer; a room of only 70 people (if not less), dim lighting and pleasant conversation.

I was greeted with a glass of Rosemount O upon my 8:30pm arrival at the Hamilton Room in City Hall. Surrounding me was an array of stools and tables; I bypassed them and instead seated myself on a leather covered lounge. Black, of course.

Whilst waiting for the panel discussion to start, I amused myself by appreciating the vast collection of heels worn within the room. When 9pm arrived everyone looked towards the stage, where five empty seats waited to be filled.

It was then, Fashion After Hours really began. ‘Eccentricity and Creative Thinking’ was the topic of the night. Panelists Thea Basilou, Alison Kubler, Meghan Carlsen, Clare Press and Kath Horton intelligently explained the history behind eccentricity and creativity and how it relates to the fashion industry. The night continued with “sparkling conversation about fashion and culture,” and ended with a round of questions from the audience. And to top it all off a serving of dark chocolate with a chilli centre.
