Graduate of the Year Awards

Ah, the fashion runway show…cameras flashing, music pumping and the strut of a waif-like lass down the catwalk as Australia’s best budding designers showcased their collections at one of the festivals most coveted events, the Fashion Graduate of the Year Awards.

City Hall was decked out in all the extravagance one would expect of a fashion spectacle (if one were at the collections at Bryant Park in New York). Yes, Brisbane city has cemented itself as a fashion capital. Alongside the major players of the Big Apple and the City of Lights, Brisbane simply reiterates what the Australian fashion industry has to offer the world.

The Graduate collections were of much success. The “Oohs” and “Ahs” from the rows and rows of attendees proved that these up and comers had a point of view relevant to international audiences. Palettes of grey and noir were most apparent, where there was also a following of minimalist, albeit strong and structured lines, making the cut. The outcome was promising of what is to be the Next Big Thing in Australian fashion. The show- from styling through to production- was, put simply, fabulous- a quiet shame that the professionalism of the models couldn’t stand up (quite literally) to the occasion- can’t wait to get to the after party, hey ladies?

The Fashion Graduate of the Year Award went to, Soeli Pedrozo. Her strong, yet elegant, aesthetic was très très moderne et très très chic- certainly one to watch. The Australian fashion scene has indeed taken the glamour pack by storm, and what better place to showcase the industry greats than the Brisbane City skyline?
