We live in a virtual world that envelops us and holds our gaze, but do we truly understand its restorative power? The latest instalment of Frock Paper Scissors pervades our unbounded reality, the deep breath after a dark awakening.

In its seventh year of print, Frock Paper Scissors is an annual fashion publication where physical and virtual worlds collide. Each year, a dedicated team of Queensland University of Technology (QUT) students execute original editorials and feature articles, championing critical thought in fashion. A companion to the print magazine, the online edition explores the varied intersections of fashion and life. We’re always in search of the new and the next, plotting a renewed vision for the year to come.

Buoyed by Brisbane’s creative community, Frock Paper Scissors balances Australian fashion and lifestyle with international perspectives. Our writers have journeyed far and wide, from India and New York to Amsterdam, sharpening their pencils with a well-honed view on global culture. Directional and thoughtful, photo editorials are the product of inventive collaborations with local industry talent. Lifestyle features shed light on insider knowledge and trends, with a distinctly fresh outlook on the subject of beauty.

It is with great pleasure that we invite you to unravel the threads of the newest edition. Although fashion exists as an infinite cycle of renewal, Frock Paper Scissors could not be complete without our loyal readers. Thank you for the constant support each and every year.

Online News Editor

Marguerite is my name and news writing is my game. There isn’t a lot you can’t write about when it comes to news as long as you have the right angle, which is what I do best. After all I don’t have a major in Journalism, Media and Communications for nothing! I’m always looking for an opportunity to combine writing, whether creative or journalistic, with fashion and in the future wish to find my inspiration from the unknown corners of the world.

Terri Chalmers

Jacque Allan

Melissa Rasmussen

Social Media Manager

Mariam is midway through a Bachelor of Creative Industries, majoring in Journalism, Media and Communication — but most importantly, she’s a wanderluster in her past life, media and creative junkie in her current and rock star in her next. When she’s not up to her retinas in work, she lives on the Internet, exercises being an Anglophile and ogles at art and design. Most of all, she’s a firm believer in having her cake and eating it too.

Lara Salameh

Web Developer and Assistant

Lara Salameh is a third year student studying a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Interactive and Visual Design) here at QUT. Her current degree, combined with her past study of textile design and interest in fashion made her the perfect applicant to be on Frock’s 2011 web team. When she’s not programming or making websites, she loves dreaming about both ocean life and outer space. She has a particular affinity for whales, which makes her other love affair with Japan difficult.

Sophia Mary Mac

Web Developer and Assistant

Sophia is currently in her third year of a Bachelor of Fine Arts majoring in interactive and visual design. As well as studying, Sophia is also a freelance web designer, illustrator and photographer. Her interest in fashion illustration and design inspired her to collaborate with the FROCK online team. Besides all things design, Sophia’s other interests include dog wanting (she especially loves Scottish Terriers and Malamutes) and Star Wars.
