The work of one of the most inspiring photojournalists of the 20th Century has awed audiences in Brisbane.

Henri Cartier-Bresson: the man, the image and the world, is an exhibition that showcases over 260 of his photographs at the Queensland Art Gallery from August 27 to November 27 2011.

Exhibition tour operator Janne McGaw explained how photojournalism took Henri Cartier-Bresson all over the world from Europe and Indonesia to China, Japan, America, India, Mexico and even the Middle East.

As Henri-Cartier Bresson is often hailed as the father of photojournalism, McGraw believes the locations of his photographs have been pivotal toward his success.

“He was so highly respected that he got into all sorts of places that most people would not have been allowed,” said McGraw.

A visitor of the exhibition, Mary Dickenson, found it so fascinating she has visited more than once.

“I’ve been several times. It’s a brilliant pictorial record made on the spot with greatly significant world events,” she said.

A focus point of the exhibition is the explanations of each image and underneath each explanation there is a similar, shorter version available for kids.

Guided tours are held daily at 11am and 2pm, interactive tours are also available if you own a iPhone or smartphone.
