Fashion student and retail assistant, Martha Poggioli, has delved into the body, beauty and mass culture to create her graduate project, ‘Repitition = Perfection.’ Martha has produced this compilation by creating distinctive patterns in repetitious sequences involving clusters that are repeated, reflected and perfected. Her graduate project is comprised more specifically of three modes: ‘Cloth in Space,’ ‘Pen on Paper’ and ‘Adornment of the Body.’ All of these works originate from the same concept and serve to compliment each other. ‘Cloth in Space’ is comprised of a series of three-dimensional rings (not wearable) which hang within their own space creating separate universes. These circular rings are made from blue cotton chambray and are repeated into patterns; they are bodies in themselves and represent a person, an organ or a layer.

‘Pen on Paper’ includes a series of clusters and patterns in large-scale, black ink drawings which are completely abstract, intricate and take on various circular forms. The final mode, ‘Adornment of the Body,’ is the one aspect of her collection that is most closely associated with fashion. It consists of a series of jewellery pieces, with each piece draping across the body in symmetrical patterns. To compliment the jewellery, Martha has also developed a series of symmetrical sack dresses which create a soft contrast to the hard chain and graphic shapes of the jewellery, and also provide a bold and engaging backdrop to the pieces. Martha’s interests move across fine art and design, which make her work both difficult to define and equally liberating to create.
