They’re the talk of the town and the place you want to be seen; whether it’s to listen to the hottest new act, an all time favourite band or just to show off your funky new kit – the beloved summer festival season has arrived! With an abundance of new and returning festivals to the 2008-09 spring/summer line up, there hasn’t been a better time to kick off your heels and get a little sweaty. Here’s the low-down on this seasons places to be.

The festival season has already kicked off with the much loved Parklife. For those of you who chose to avoid the crowds, highlights of the day included genius electro-pop duo Goldfrapp who filled the Riverstage with her melodic wailing, tongue in cheek Peaches who didn’t fail to amaze the crowd with a total of 6 wardrobe changes (including a skin colour body suit complete with light up crotch, bless!) as well as ghetto fabulous Dizzie Rascal and the hottest Aussie 4-pieces around Van She. Parklife has evolved into a national institution renowned for delivering cutting-edge line-ups and an atmosphere to rival any soirée worldwide.

The announcement of British born and worldwide spectacle Global Gathering’s debut show making its way to Oz in November, made festival lovers around the country cheer with glee at the prospect of seeing some of the best dance acts in the world today. Headlined by the acclaimed Mark Ronson – brother to Lindsay’s bosom buddy Samantha and fashionista Charlotte Ronson – and the cartoon creatures the Gorillaz, this festival is one for the child inside us all screaming to let loose.

The summer festival line-up continues to impress with favourites such as Falls Festival in Melbourne and Tasmania over new years, boasting acts such as British Indie pop-rockers The Kooks and rock favourites, Franz Ferdinand. This three day festival brings in the new-year in style and is a must-do for festival lovers around the country.

Travelling the country throughout Jan and Feb, festival classic, Big Day Out has become a youth cultural institution in Oz. Previously drawing some of the greatest acts of our time such as Nirvana, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Rage Against the Machine and Iggy Pop. This year’s line-up sports hot acts such as Arctic Monkeys and the return of classic dance-rock act the Prodigy.
Others not to miss are newly formed Sunset Sounds in Bris on Jan 7 & 8 and Good vibrations which tours the East Coast in early February, just to name a few.

There hasn’t been a better time to be a part of today’s party and music crazed youth, so get amongst it and catch the best damn sickness there is – festival fever.
